Sports Cards, Memorabilia, and Me!

Sports Cards

Sports cards—be those basketball, baseball, hockey, football, or soccer, are a passion of mine.  I have thousands and thousands of cards, and I’ve handled each one of them more than once.  They occupy space in my garage, my “man cave-office” and now that my oldest son has moved out on his own, his former bedroom.  I love it when someone calls looking for a particular card or offering something to sell.  It gives me a reason to look at my cards again.

My love of sports cards has also expanded to sports memorabilia.  If this happens to you, one of the cautions I would give you is to be sure the memorabilia is authentic, and not a knock-off.  Be sure the memorabilia is from reputable companies and has been authenticated by a company such as Professional Sports Authenticators or Memorabilia Evaluation and Research Services.

I would suggest you consider adding your sports cards and memorabilia onto your homeowner’s insurance policy.  This way if they are damaged or lost due to a natural event, fire or robbery, you’ll be covered.  Be sure you factor in inflation, since what a product is worth today could be greatly increased in the next few years.

Finally, I would tell you to look through and enjoy your collections regularly.  There is a “rush” you get when you find a great card in mint condition. Another “rush” can happen when you find the perfect card to complete your set or highlight one of your favorite players. When you revisit you collection, you can feel a “rush” all over again, making the experience even richer.

If you love what you collect but are also willing to part with some of it to the right collector for the right price, please give us a call at (661) 665-8270. Stay cool!
